Middle East Sociology Working Group
Minutes

Informal meeting, American Sociological Association, Annual Meeting, San Francisco, California, August 16, 2014.

The Middle East Sociology Working Group met at Yank Sing, a dim sum restaurant seven blocks from the conference site. The gathering was primarily social, although two announcements were noted:

* The Carnegie Corporation of New York is funding a second round of fellowships for social scientists at Arab universities to study at a variety of universities in the United States, including the University of Minnesota and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

* The Arab Council for the Social Sciences plans to hold an second major conference in Beirut, Lebanon, in March 2015.

The group also discussed polling American Sociological Association members about interest in forming a new Middle East-related section. [The survey was posted here on September 15, 2014.]
