Middle East Sociology Working Group

Notes

Middle East Studies Association, Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C., December 2011.

Due to scheduling difficulties, the working group was not able to meet during this year’s MESA conference. However, working group members gathered at receptions held by two sister organizations:

Sociology of Islam and Muslim Societies, which held a reception to introduce its new partnership with Brill in publishing its eponymous journal.

Arab Council for the Social Sciences, which held an inaugural informational session and reception to mark its recent founding, with headquarters in Beirut, and its search for a director; and associate director.

We hope to revive our tradition of an informal meeting of the Middle East Sociology Working Group at next summer’s meeting of the American Sociological Association, as well as floating the possibility of an informal half-day workshop for graduate students at the start of the conference, on the model of the Social Movements workshop that is held prior to the ASA every other summer.
